TOP 8 EMERGING TECHNOLOGY AND THEIR IMPACT ON SOCIETY
Technology has always had a hand in shaping society. As we venture deeper into the 21st century, new emerging technology will soon impact how we do things in different ways. Below are only a few examples.
There is a lot of debate about AI. Some are claiming it to be the demise of humanity while many are more than willing to embrace its emergence and the many ways it could benefit humanity. Whichever side of the debate you’re on, innovation does not stop and companies continue to develop machines that are able to adapt and learn. Early iterations of AI are seen applied in the manufacturing process but it’s also slowly being integrated into machine learning for data analytics.
Starlink was the brainchild of a technology entrepreneur, Elon Musk. He envisioned a network of satellites that will deliver fast internet all around the world, even in remote areas. Currently, there are about 500 Starlink satellites in orbit but in order to achieve global coverage, around 12,000 need to be launched. Lucky for Starlink, their sister company, SpaceX is the industry leader when it comes to putting stuff into Earth’s orbit at a greatly reduced price.
Speaking of SpaceX, they have made huge leaps when it comes to making space available to the general public. They’ve spent almost 20 years perfecting their launch system that greatly reduced the cost per launch. They achieve this by reusing the rocket boosters which are normally discarded with each launch. They’re currently testing their Dragon spacecraft designed to take up 7 people into space. Space has never been nearer.
Often referred to as CNTs for short, carbon nanotubes are 100 times stronger than steel but at only one-sixth the weight. And CNTs are better conductors of heat and electricity than copper. Currently, CNTs are used to enhance the conductivity of polymers and as well as structural reinforcement. Because of its conductivity, CNTs are a cost-effective replacement for metal wires.
Internet of Things
The internet has evolved into something only very few have predicted. All the latest devices have been designed to connect to the net in some form or another. Appliances that talk to each other and to us via our phones will become mainstream in a few years’ time.
This technology gained prominence due to Bitcoin which heavily relies on it to secure each transaction. Essentially, Blockchain technology is a distributed ledger that records the activity of digital assets. The technology is both revolutionary and promising because it can help reduce risk, and prevent fraud, and bring transparency in a way that’s scalable for other uses.
We’ve had robots with us for quite some time. They are put to use in situations where it could be hazardous to humans or human labor is simply not economical. We will eventually see more features and capabilities designed into new iterations of robots. Complicated tasks like surgery, carrying spy equipment, and manufacturing are only some examples that will greatly benefit from robotics.
Augmented reality isn’t just great for catching Pokemons. It also has other applications. As technology becomes more cost-effective and sophisticated, we will soon be interacting with the world around us through the lens of AR.
