Transporta Enlivens Logistics Transportation Business in the E-Commerce

Indonesian technology startup Transporta introduces a transportation management system to help truck companies deal with the rapid developments in Indonesia’s e-commerce sector.

This is done so that companies can overcome various challenges, especially those caused by the lack of technology in the logistics sector.

The Indonesian e-commerce market is projected to grow 54 percent annually and the business value in this segment will reach US$ 32 billion in 2020.

This growth spike was triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic which triggered almost all business sectors including consumer habits that use digital technology for the implementation of social distancing.

This trend also encourages the emergence of technology startups that support the growth of the e-commerce business in Indonesia. One that is now starting to enliven the truck-based transportation business in Indonesia is Transporta.

The technology startup company Transporta, introduced a transportation management system to help truck companies deal with rapid developments in the e-commerce sector.

This startup helps trucking companies overcome various challenges, especially those caused by the lack of technology in the logistics sector.

Logistics Demand in E-commerce is Increasing

COO Transporta, Emma Hartono, said the growth of the e-commerce sector is driving logistics demand for e-commerce. However, the technology to run logistics companies is still lagging behind.

“Indonesian truckers face limitations due to lack of visibility into their operations – be it orders, performance, utilities, or finances. They also face poor internal communications and scattered and disorganized data sources,” said Emma, Thursday (25/6/2021).

He explained that the Transporta startup offers a solution to overcome these problems through a centralized cloud-based operational solution for trucking companies and related businesses.

This solution enables truckers to maximize the speed of their daily operations and utilize resources such as routes, truck space, gasoline usage, and driver pooling efficiently.

Trucking entrepreneurs can also drive profitability and delivery performance. Emma explained that transportation management systems have proven to be able to reduce logistics costs and most of the savings are supported by better routing and negotiations.

In Indonesia, where logistics costs are among the highest in ASEAN, reaching 30 percent of GDP and savings are expected to have more impact.

Cloud Platform Supports SME Truck Entrepreneurs

It is estimated that there are 100,000 trucking companies in Indonesia, which control about five million trucks in total. However, 75 percent of companies only have a truck fleet of less than 20 units.

This results in empty transport and inefficient routes. SME trucking entrepreneurs do not have the financial capacity to use online platforms. This further exacerbates the gap between big truckers and SMEs.

With Transporta’s cost-effective cloud-based platform solutions, transportation management systems will not cost SME trucking entrepreneurs, enabling them to compete in an ever-evolving market.

The digital technology owned by this startup also allows for a quick and easy onboarding process with self-onboarding or self-orientation processes.

Truckers can create quotes, orders, and invoices, while managing inventory and assets through intelligent management, automated order tracking, and customer relationship management (CRM) integrated in one place.

Emma targets to get 10,000 trucking companies to join Transporta in the next 3 years. “Currently, we are exploring potential partnerships with around 1,900 truck entrepreneurs through the Indonesian Truck Entrepreneurs Association (Aptrindo),” he said.

We are also leveraging a partnership with Internet of Things startup Trackak.io to further optimize our services and assist SME trucking entrepreneurs with a centralized cloud platform solution.

Transporta is an Indonesia-based transportation management system startup that helps truck companies maximize their daily operating speed and truck utility, as well as profitability through a centralized cloud platform.

Transporta’s vision is to become a digital platform that connects end-to-end transportation solutions and revolutionizes the transportation industry, while supporting economic growth in Indonesia.
