Collaborates with Google, BRI Look for Startups that Help MSMEs

Bank BRI is looking for a choice startup that can help the development of the digital economy in the MSME sector. Cooperating with Google, Bank BRI held a Hackaton 2020 competition which is expected to encourage collaboration between technology activists and BRI.

Hackaton 2020 participants are expected to be able to build applications through the BRIAPI platform and Google Cloud to assist the development of MSMEs in Indonesia through technology.

“BRI collaborated with Google to gather technology activists. In this case, we want to build an application or platform in a matter of hours, as a solution to the problems in the MSME sector,” said Director of Information Technology and Operations of Bank BRI Indra Utoyo to participants at the Ballroom Hotel Pullman, Jakarta, Monday (02/10/2020).

From this activity, continued Indra, Bank BRI hopes that there will be young entrepreneurs who are creative and full of new ideas in helping develop the economy in Indonesia.

“Yes, hopefully, there will be new entrepreneurs who bring cool ideas, which certainly have a real impact on SMEs in Indonesia,” Indra said.

Indra added that this event was a series of Hackaton conducted by Google to optimize the start-ups to make it easier to integrate with the BRI Bank system.

“This activity is expected to also be able to bring up applications that are able to answer all the problems of the SMEs and are able to also benefit the community in general,” Indra added.

The Event is held on February 10-11, 2020

The title “Supporting Indonesia Digital Economy based on Small Medium Enterprises (SME) for Brilliant Indonesia” was held for 2 days (10 – 11 February 2020). Unmitigated the event was held in three cities in Indonesia, which are Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya.

BRI’s Director of Information Technology and Operations, Indra Utoyo said the event was expected to encourage collaboration between BRI technology activists through BRIAPI and Google Cloud in building technology for the development of MSMEs in Indonesia.

“This collaboration has been started since last November to recruit talent by proposing innovation. Participants were gathered in three cities and each of the top 20 who passed. Cooperation through the Cloud and Google facilitates that, “Indra Utoyo said.

Regarding the event, Indra continued the participants who passed had attended a technical meeting in the city where the participant was registered and was provided with an explanation of BRI products as a payment method, how to integrate using BRIAPI and technically using Google Cloud.

Competition Requirements are not Complicated

Regarding the competition, participants need to go through requirements, such as aged 17 years and over, from among students, start-up activists, freelancers and digital technology activists. Each prospective participant is a team consisting of a maximum of three people. Other requirements, participants have a strong interest in the world of business, technology and start-up.

The participants who have been selected through selection presented their application or homemade platform in front of the judges. In addition, the participants also had the opportunity to attend coaching clinics with the BRI and Google Indonesia teams.

After undergoing the stages of coaching, presentation and judging, on the second day, three main winners of BRIxGoogle Hackaton were announced in each city. The first winner, entitled to get money worth Rp 35 million per team and BRIZZI Rp 500 thousand per person.

While the second winner will get as much as Rp. 25 million per team and BRIZZI Rp. 500 thousand per person, then for the third winner get Rp. 15 million per team and BRIZZI Rp. 500 thousand per person.

“We hope that the digital economy players will be able to support efforts to digitize the economy by empowering MSMEs. In addition, this activity is expected to bring up applications that are able to answer the problems of MSME actors and be able to provide benefits to the community in general, “concluded Indra.
